Little Vumbura

It was now time to go into the Okavango Delta, the area with the most wildlife in Botswana. Our third camp, Little Vumbura, is located on a small island only accessible by boat. Due to heavy rainfall before our arrival, the nearby airstrip was unusable so we landed at another one a little bit further away. We were expecting to join the camp by car from there but we were told to take a seat in a helicopter instead. What a way to start a stay!

On our second day, we were told that a lion pride have had new cubs not too long ago. In fact, four 2 month old lion cubs were hiding in a bush not too far from the camp. They would only come out if the mother is there. She would come back once a day to feed them. They will join their siblings later on once they are able to walk correctly.

Those beautiful cubs were only the start as we were able to see a leopard and a family of cheetahs.

The camp offers the opportunity to do an Mokoro excursion offering a unique perspective to the wildlife near the waterways. Just try to avoid colliding with a hippo.

Compared to dry areas like Central Kalahari or Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, there is a lot more variety of wildlife in the Okavango Delta.
