Savute Elephant Lodge

Our second to last camp was Savute Elephant Lodge besides the Savute Channel.

The lodge has its name from the large herds of elephants that can be seen nearby. Elephants are taking mud baths to cool down and protect themselves from the sun.

On our first day, we were following a pride of lions on the hunt. Their prey was scared away by a large male leopard, who was in the area. He did not seem very pleasant to see us ...

We found the pride of lions a bit later during our stay. They had several generations of cubs. Great fun!

A group of 13 spotted hyenas was living in a known den. The cubs are black and only get their characteristic spots when growing up. This group had 7 months and two years old cubs. They were babysitted by older siblings while the mother was out looking for food. Young hyenas are curious as showed by one of them who tried to chew on our tires. Luckily it did not manage to slash the tire.

During the whole adventure, I tried several time to get a good shot by "panning". I am very far from mastering this technique but I am quite pleased with the picture below.
